Messenger Popups

Messenger popups can annoy you beyond description. More than that, they can invite spyware and other evil things inside your computer.

If you're like me, these annoying popups can be quite a headache. More than that, they can popup at the most inopportune times. I read about a guy who was making a presentation with his computer screen projected onto a big screen. During his presentation the audience became quite amused when an "invitation" popped up on the screen from...well, one of those sites you don't want popping up on your screen when you're standing in front of people.

There is a simple way to rid yourself of these popups WITHOUT paying money to anyone.

Begin by "clicking" on the START button, and open the CONTROL PANEL.

Open the ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS by double-clicking the icon.

The ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS window will open as shown next.

Open the SERVICES window by double-clicking the icon.

Scroll down the screen and highlight MESSENGER.

At the upper left corner of the screen, click STOP the service. Using this method, you must re-do it each time you reboot your computer.

Note: More recent versions of Windows XP allow you to double-click on the MESSENGER name to bring up the properties box. In the properties box you can disable MESSENGER once and for all.
